College of Education Application based on Z Score
Henceforth, students will be admitted to National Colleges of Education only on the basis of the minimum Z marks issued by the University Grants Commission.
This step is taken due to the merger of the nineteen National Colleges of Education and the establishment of a new university called the National Teachers University. The legal proceedings for the establishment of the university are currently in the final stages. With the establishment of the new university, the three-year training period of the National Colleges of Education will be expanded to four years. Accordingly, the students will be awarded a bachelor’s degree instead of the National Diploma of Education given to the students so far. Henceforth, appointments to schools will be given only to graduates who have completed four years of teacher training.
The students who appeared for the A Level examination held last December are the first group here. The results of these students will be released within the next two months. Under the new system, students entering the National University should also apply at the same time as the students entering the National Teachers’ University. They should apply as per the admission manual issued by the University Grants Commission.
A few years ago, this National Teachers University was to be established, but the work was delayed for a long time due to the demands that it should be established under the National Institute of Education. College lecturers protested strongly and in some cases resorted to strike action.
